Giorgio Giacinto is Full Professor of Computer Engineering at the University of Cagliari, Italy. Since 1995 he joined the research group on Pattern Recognition and Applications of the Dept. of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Cagliari, Italy, and from Nov. 2000 he has been appointed a permanent faculty position.
Prof. Giacinto teaches courses on Databases, Operating Systems, and
Computer Security in the MSc courses on Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications Engineering at the University of Cagliari, Italy.
Prof. Giacinto is a Senior Member of the IEEE and the ACM, and he is a member of
IAPR.
His main area of expertise is the study and development of pattern recognition techniques, and their application to new and challenging tasks. Activities are carried out in the framework of national and European projects.
In particular, his contributions are in the fields of
Prof. Giacinto is author of more than

He is also member of the editorial board of the “Information Fusion” journal, and of the Transactions on Machine Learning and Data mining in Pattern Recognition. He is a member of the program committee in a number of conferences in the field of pattern recognition and its applications, and regularly acts as a reviewer.
He is a co-founder of
Pluribus One, a spin-off of the University of Cagliari.
