Giorgio Fumera

Associate professor.

Giorgio Fumera received the M.Sc. degree in Electronic Eng., with honours, and the Ph.D. degree in Electronic Eng. and Computer Science, respectively in 1997 and 2002, from the University of Cagliari, Italy. Since February 2011 he is associate professor of Computer Engineering at the Dept. of Electrical and Electronic Eng. of the University of Cagliari.

His research interests are related to methodologies and applications of statistical pattern recognition. His main research topics are classification reliability, multiple classifier systems and adversarial machine learning, with applications to text and image categorization, computer vision for intelligent videosurveillance, security of biometric identity recognition systems, and gesture recognition. On these topics he published about ninety papers on international journals and conference proceedings, and five book chapters (see also his Google Scholar profile).

G. Fumera teaches courses on fundamentals of computer science for the B.Sc. and M.Sc. programs on Civil and Environmental Engineering, and a course on Artificial Intelligence for the M.Sc. program on Electronic Engineering, at the University of Cagliari. He is also a member of the PhD Program in Electronic and Computer Engineering.

G. Fumera is associate editor of the Electronic Letters on Computer Vision and Image Analysis (ELCVIA) online journal and of Intelligenza Artificiale, the official journal of the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence (AI*IA). He regularly acts as reviewer for several international journals in the pattern recognition and related fields, and is a member of the program committee of several international conferences. He is co-chair of the 7th Int. Conf. on Image Processing Theory, Tools and Applications (IPTA 2017).

G. Fumera is a member of the IEEE, the IAPR, and of the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence (AI*IA).
